The purpose of this blog is to talk about the future. Europe is heading the wrong way, and where there is no vision, the people perish. Europe had been a source of inspiration to many, but its leaders have failed to provide an alternative outlook on the way its society can be organised. I want to write down images of Europe in 100 years from now, some of them political and social, and some of them technological.
I am a science-fiction fan, and I think that science-fiction has to ability to critique the present by imagining a possible trajetory for future development. We live in a time when utopian science-fiction has become a rarity, and those writers who have kept their optimism about the future of humanity, usually find no place for Europe in their writings. I do believe in aspects of the European model, and I think that a vision of a better Europe can be an inspiration.
Each post will treat one aspect of Europe in 2113. Some of my posts may seem wildly speculative, and some thoroughly unrealistic. I will however attempt to stick to what is scientifically possible, and politically plausible.
I am a socialist, a Christian, a European, a (East) German, and a Leipziger - just so you know. So, off we go!
